Description

Mortimer Hill is a large house, originally dating from the 18th century and altered and extended in the 19th century. It has been divided into two separate dwellings. The house is constructed of Roman cement and has an old tile hipped roof. It features an irregular plan with three chimneys visible at the front and several at the rear.

The south front has three dormers, each with a two-light casement window and a pedimented head supported by long scroll brackets. The main part of the front has five bays, with one slightly recessed bay to the left and three bays set back from this. All windows are sash windows with Venetian shutters. A central front door is set within a late 18th-century doorcase, featuring panelled reveals, an architrave, a fluted frieze, and a cornice, all leading to a stone Doric porch. The ground floor window on the right-hand side has been altered to a French casement. The building is described in the Buildings of England (Berkshire), page 229.
