Description
Abbeycroft is a large house located in a landscaped setting in Stratfield Mortimer, dating from the late 18th century and extended in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped old tile roof. It has a rectangular plan with service extensions on the right side, and it stands two storeys high with attics. There is one chimney on the ridge to the right and two at the rear.
The entrance front is notable for its symmetry, featuring four attic windows and two and three-light casements. The original structure includes two two-storey angular bays with a cornice that wraps around them. On either side of a central window, which is similar to the others, are sash windows with glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight with a radiating looped pattern, set within a doorcase that has pilasters and an entablature with rounded ornamentation in the frieze. To the right, there is a three-bay extension that matches the original character, although the sash window on the ground floor to the right has been blocked.
Inside, the house features an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
