Description
The Head Post Office, located on the High Street, was built in 1894 in the Flemish style. It is a three-story building with attics, constructed of red brick with terra cotta detailing. The roof is slate-covered and features three elaborate pediments with shell moulding, as well as a modillion cornice with a frieze. The first and second floors have five mullioned and transomed casement windows. The ground floor features round-headed windows, and a projecting, pedimented porch on the left-hand side, supported by console brackets. The pediment incorporates a crown motif. Beneath the main building lies a 14th-century vault, designated as a scheduled ancient monument.
