Description

A terrace of six houses, numbered 17 to 22, dating to around 1830. The houses are stuccoed, with rusticated detailing to the ground floor. They have slate roofs and a prominent cornice and blocking course. Each house has three windows, with the first-floor windows accentuated by cornice moulding supported on consoles. The houses have central doorways. Numbers 18 and 21 are slightly recessed, while numbers 19 and 20 feature pilasters at the angles. Most houses have doors with rectangular fanlights above, though numbers 21 and 22 have deeply recessed doors with niches in the splayed reveals. A decorative ironwork railing connects bollards in front of the terrace. The astronomer Colonel Clarke F.R.S. resided at number 21 between 1861 and 1881.
