Description
Nos. 10-12 and 14-24 Oaklands is a three-storey block built from heavily raked dark brickwork, featuring horizontal white weatherboarding and bands of black vertical boarding on the upper floors, topped with flat roofs. The building contains seven maisonettes on the upper two floors and six flats below, with each dwelling having its own external doorway on the north side. The flats and maisonettes have varying layouts, with 1-2 bedrooms in the flats and 2-3 bedrooms in the maisonettes.
The exterior on the north side has projecting brick walls that create a series of irregularly-shaped yards, enclosed by white boarded timber gates. The original front doors are made of white-painted timber with two large glazed panels. The windows are centrally-hinged black timber casements, with those on the upper floors set in bands of black vertical boarding. The living-room windows are taller, contributing to a varied pattern of fenestration. On the south side, the flats feature glazed sliding doors with black timber surrounds that open onto semi-enclosed patios.
Inside, original fittings such as built-in cupboards, glazed partitions between living rooms and kitchens, and timber handrails on the stairs are preserved to varying degrees throughout the estate.
