Description

The Lodge to The Warren is an early 19th-century cottage ornée, built in a picturesque style. It is constructed of squared and knapped flint with ashlar quoins and bracket cills. The first floor is jettied and stuccoed with applied timbering. The roof is tiled, and features scalloped bargeboards with brackets to the verges and pendants.

The lodge has three bays to the east. The ground floor features two cross windows, flanking a two-storey tower porch. The first floor of the porch is jettied and supported on octagonal columns with moulded caps. Above the porch are three lancet windows (one replacing a former door), and a pointed window on the first floor. To the north, a gable to the left incorporates a three-light bay under a jetty.

A 1938 replica extension, in two bays and with one-and-a-half stories, extends to the right, featuring a gabled dormer and a central door. The south gable also features a jetty supported on thin cast iron colonettes. The building has two chimneys with paired octagonal shafts displaying raised diaper patterning. Originally thatched with lower eaves, the roof was altered at some point.
