Description

The seafront shelter, built around 1900, is located on Clarence Esplanade in Southsea, Portsmouth. It features a timber structure with a flat composition sheeted roof and an elongated open H-plan design. The painted timber frame has splayed arrises and is set on a stone base. The shelter includes diagonal boarded infill at the dado level, with fixed glazing above and decorative fretted ornamental iron panels at the top. A projecting fascia and stepped cornice with iron brackets adorn the structure, along with ornamental iron antefixae around the eaves. Each side of the shelter has a recessed horizontal open slatted varnished timber bench, with the back supported by shaped timber legs.
