Description
Shanklin Lodge is a house built in 1858, with alterations made in the 20th century, likely designed by T.E. Owen. The building is finished in stucco and features a roof made of interlocking tiles, with rendered stacks at the center and in the center of the gabled right wing. It has three storeys and two bays, originally designed as a two-storey structure, and has an L-shaped plan.
The entrance is a 20th-century door located at the center, topped with a fanlight and set within a rusticated gabled porch that has shaped brackets beneath the projecting roof verges. To the right, there is a small sash window on the projecting wing, while to the left, a 6-pane sash window with shutters is set in a round-arched surround. On the first floor, there is a small metal casement window with shutters at the head, positioned in the original sash opening, along with a 6-pane sash window above the porch. The projecting eaves and roof verges are supported by heavy shaped brackets.
At the rear, the gabled left wing features a sill band at the first floor that returns on both sides. The left return has two first-floor sash windows and on the ground floor, there are two 20th-century French casements, each topped with a cornice and shaped brackets. The rear of the right wing includes three first-floor sash windows, and on the ground floor, there is a 20th-century French casement along with two casements.
