Description
The Emmanuel Memorial Drinking Fountain, located in Canoe Lake Gardens, is a monument dating from around 1870 and was refurbished in 1992. It is made of stone, iron, and bronze. The fountain features a bronze angel of peace mounted on a polished granite base with a rounded front, which is supported by an elaborate cast-iron canopy with four columns. The structure is set on a granite base that includes a drinking fountain, although the taps and cups are missing. An inscription on the fountain states, "This fountain was given to the people of Portsmouth by his son and daughter, Baron Emmanuel Emmanuel, Alderman J.P. who was Mayor of Portsmouth 1866-1877."
