Description
The lighthouse on the north face of Southsea Castle was built in 1828. It features brick headers painted with black and white bands. There is a door leading off the Western Gallery firing platform. The structure is a short round tower topped with a lantern, an iron gallery, and a tented roof with a ball finial. This lighthouse is situated on the north face of the Western Gallery gun platform of Southsea Castle, which was originally constructed by Henry VIII and has undergone significant later alterations. It serves to mark the deep water channel for vessels entering Portsmouth harbour. The interior was not inspected.
