Description

These are five terraced houses built around 1830 in stucco. They have roofs of interlocking tiles on numbers 63 and 65, and Welsh slate roofs on numbers 67, 69, and 71. Brick stacks are located to the left of number 63 and the right of number 69, with a rendered stack between numbers 65 and 67, and one to the right of number 71. The houses are three storeys high with a basement and have seven bays, with the second and fifth bays blocked. A recessed, two-panelled door is set between numbers 63 and 65, a 20th-century door is to the right of number 67, and a six-moulded and fielded panel door with an overlight is to the left of number 69, each accessed by six steps with attached railings. Pairs of doors at numbers 63/65 and 67/69 are set within wide porches with flanking pilasters and a cornice. At ground floor, numbers 63 and 67 have 16-pane sash windows set under flat arches. Numbers 65 and 69 have a similar 16-pane sash window. The first floor has a sill band course and matching 16-pane sashes. The second floor has smaller 8-pane sashes to each house, except for number 71, which has a 16-pane sash. A return wall on St James Road at number 71 features five steps to a panelled door with a fanlight, an 8-pane sash window on the first floor and a 4-pane sash on the second floor, with a wide stack in the centre of the gable facing. There are long and short painted quoins. The interior has not been inspected.
