Description
No. 18 Belmont Street is a house, the last remaining of a former terrace, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of red brick with grey headers in Flemish bond, with the ground floor painted. The house features a plain tile hipped roof and a central brick chimney stack. It has three storeys and one bay.
On the right side, there is a recessed six-panelled door with a fanlight that has leaded radial looped glazing. The doorcase is adorned with thinly fluted Doric columns, a broken entablature, and a dentilled pediment. An original cast-iron boot-scraper is also present. To the left, there is a canted tripartite bay window, which includes a central twelve-pane sash and flanking eight-pane sashes, topped with a frieze and dentil cornice. The frieze features a shell and scrolled leaf motif at the center.
To the left of the bay window is a 20th-century single-storey flat roof extension with sixty-pane three-light casements. The first floor has a tripartite sash window with a central four-pane sash and narrow flanking four-pane sashes, all set under a slightly cambered gauged brick arch. Delicate reeded pilasters divide the lights and support moulded brackets. A brick dentil band and a stone-coped parapet complete the design.
The interior has not been inspected.
