Description

This is a terrace of seven early 19th-century houses, numbered 9 to 21, located on the east side of Regent Street, Headland, Hartlepool. The buildings are constructed with painted stucco and render over brickwork and have Welsh slate roofs. Each house has seven brick ridge stacks, with the one at number 9 being truncated.

The terrace is two storeys high, with basements to numbers 9 to 15. Each house has two bays, and round-headed doorways are located to the left of numbers 9, 11, 17, 19, and 21. Numbers 9 and 11 have doorcases consisting of wooden pilasters and an entablature. Numbers 13 and 15 have later 19th-century wood doorcases with panel reveals, overlights, and pilasters and entablatures. The doors are panelled at numbers 9 and 21, with fanlights above at numbers 9, 11, 17, 19, and 21; the fanlight at number 9 features geometric glazing bars.

Each house has a canted first-floor oriel window in the right-hand bay. Late 19th-century sash windows are present at numbers 15, 19, and 21; all other windows have been altered in the mid to late 20th century but remain within the original openings. The windows have painted stone lintels and wedge lintels. There are late 19th-century canted and hipped roof dormers at numbers 13 and 15. Basement windows with iron grilles are found at numbers 9 to 15. Rear wings and extensions are not considered to be of architectural interest. The terrace is included on the list for its group value.
