Description

Remains of a town wall, which formerly served as a sea defence, stand on the south-east side of South Crescent, Headland, Hartlepool. Dating to the early 14th century, the wall is constructed from roughly dressed and coursed limestone, interspersed with random rubble limestone. Repair work, using brick, occurred intermittently during the 18th and 19th centuries. The surviving section is approximately 6 metres high and 100 metres long.
