Description
The terrace at 3 to 17 New Street, Stony Stratford, was built in 1862. Numbers 5 to 17 form a reflected terrace, while number 3 stands separately. The buildings are two storeys and have attics. Number 3 has one window per floor; numbers 5 to 15 have one window on the ground floor, two on the first floor, and a gabled dormer. Number 17 has doubled windows. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a two-course string over the ground floor, which is slightly ramped between numbers 11 and 13, and an overlapping eaves cornice. There is a slight plinth and a tiled roof. The casement windows largely retain diamond glazing, with ground-floor windows having mullions and transoms and pointed relieving arches above. Most windows have three lights, with an additional single light on the first floor. Number 17 has a six-light rectangular bay with a tiled roof on its right-hand side. Numbers 5 to 15 have paired doorways with pointed relieving arches and two pointed lights above. Numbers 13 and 15 have glazed panels in their doors, shared by a lean-to porch with glazed pointed lights. Rainwater boxes between the houses are marked with the date 1862. Red and blue tiled paths are retained in front of numbers 5 to 15. Number 3 projects forward with a gable end facing the street, a feature also echoed by the right-hand part of Number 17. The terrace forms a group with the even numbers 2 to 24 and the adjacent stable building to number 2.
