Description
No 24 New Street is a building dating from around 1863, part of improvements made by Reverend W. T. Sankey. It is one and a half storeys tall with one window on each side. The structure is built of coursed rubble with brick dressings, featuring quoins, a plinth cap, and eaves modillions. The roof is tiled and hipped towards Russell Street, with a central brick stack that has ornamental coursing at the top.
No 23, which is whitewashed, has a polygonal corner and three-light lancet windows with blocked heads. No 24 has a two-light casement dormer that is flush with the front, and there is a similar dormer at the rear of No 23. There is a small single-storey extension at the rear of No 24, which is tiled and connects to the rear extension of No 23, featuring tumbled brick in the chimney. Both buildings have pointed doorways with plank doors.
No 24 is located on the street, while No 23 is situated at the rear. Together with Nos 3 to 17 (odd) the Masonic Hall, Nos 2 to 24 (even), and the stable building adjacent to No 2, they form a group.
