Description

This is a pair of mid-18th century cottages located in Lower Weald, Calverton. The cottages are constructed of rubble with ashlar quoins, and have brick cambered arches over the windows and doors, the latter also quoined. A brick toothed band runs along the eaves. The roof is tiled. A dated quoin stone, marked "W.C, 177-", is visible on a blocked doorway, indicating an original central entrance. The cottages have four windows on the first floor, which are casements with glazing bars, one of which is blind. The ground floor windows consist of a three-light sash window, a smaller sash window, a narrow sash window, and a recently inserted window. Each cottage has a door to one side with a tiled, bracketed porch.
