Description
The lychgate at the north east corner of the churchyard of All Saints was built around 1900 and is designed in the Art Nouveau style. It features a stone plinth made of coursed ashlar with a ramped base and a moulded top. Inside, there are stone bench seats. The timber framing is notable for its prominent pegs, and the sides have depressed arches with decorative relief panels above them, situated between long flat arched bays that include a balustrade halfway up and a moulded rail. The arches are chamfered and have stops. The short sides of the lychgate have a central flat arch, with entry and side lights divided by octagonal shafts topped with octagonal moulded caps. The roof is hipped with gablets that contain timber lancets, and there is a central lead-clad finial spirelet adorned with wrought iron scrolls in the Art Nouveau Gothic style. This structure was funded by Mrs. Sams, the wife of the rector at the time.
