Description
Fenny Stratford Station Building is a Grade II listed structure dating from 1846. This attractive, small building features a timber-framed design with gothic elements. It stands two storeys tall and showcases an elaborate diagonal and curved diamond framing pattern, with roughcast and brick infill. The steeply pitched gable end roof is tiled and has grouped diagonally set stacks along the ridge, complemented by fancy bargeboards with finials on the gable ends facing south towards the platform. Small dormers cut into the eaves, adorned with similar bargeboards, add to its charm. At the south end, there are single-storey wings that extend at right angles. Lean-to verandah porches along the sides from the platform are glazed with pointed lights. The gable end facing the platform features two-light mullioned windows on the first floor, complete with drip moulds on stops, and a small mullioned transomed rectangular bay window with a flat roof on the ground floor. This building is a picturesque and notable example of the London/North Western Railway's Bedford Branch.
