Description
No 60 Watling Street is a large three-storey house built around 1816 by Charles Warren. It is constructed from dark red brick and features a front that is a dwelling of early to mid-18th century origin, which was altered and enlarged in the late 18th century. The road level was lowered and realigned around 1830, causing the house to be set back and raised above the new road level. The house has a low pitch gable end slate roof with eaves supported by small paired dentils.
The façade includes three symmetrical, recessed, rather squat glazing bar sash windows set in stuccoed reveals with flat stucco arches. A pedimented porch features slender reeded columns and reeded pilasters on the wall, along with a dentil cornice and triangular pediment. The entrance has a six-panel door in a panelled reveal and soffit, topped with a semi-circular traceried fanlight. To the east, there is a single-storey wing with a parapet and flat stone roofing, which has three plain panels. This wing includes a six-paned door with a rectangular fanlight and a flat bracketed hood. There is also a modern window present.
