Description
Stoneaways is a house dating from the 17th century, located on the north-west side of High Street in Weston Underwood. It is constructed of coursed rubblestone with limestone dressings and has a plain tile roof. The house originally comprised three bays over two storeys, with dormers. The main entrance, situated between the right-hand bays and in front of a chimney stack, features a six-panel door set within an architrave surround and sheltered by a flat hood supported on heavy scroll brackets. Stone mullioned windows with stone labels are present; these are four-light on the ground floor and three-light on the first floor, with a single light window above the entrance. The gable ends are stone-coped and feature kneelers. Three 19th-century two-light gabled dormers have been added. Brick flanking stacks and a central stack between the right-hand bays are also of the 19th century. The rear elevation includes a six-panel door and timber casement windows, some of which are leaded. A two-storey north-west wing retains an old tile roof. Internally, the house has chamfered spine beams and some 17th and 18th-century fireplaces that were altered in the 19th century.
