Description

The screen enclosing the Carrington graves, located to the northeast of the Church of St. Mary, was constructed around 1870 by William Burges. It features a dwarf wall made of ashlar Portland stone, which has roll moulding on each side. The screen consists of three bays of ornamental ironwork, separated by octagonal stone piers that display heraldic shields on their shafts and are topped with finials shaped like gothic reliquaries. There is an iron gate in the center of the west side. Inside the enclosure, there are plain granite grave slabs, including one for Robert, 2nd Baron Carrington (1796-1868), which is supported on short marble piers.
