Description
No 106 on High Street is an early 18th-century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey building with three windows and features a tiled roof, mostly covered with old tiles. The house has three hipped dormers and sash windows. The central doorcase, dating from the mid-19th century, is adorned with pilasters that have brackets supporting a wooden plinth, along with impost lozenges on the pilasters. On the ground floor, it is flanked by two three-light bay windows. This site has historical significance, as a house was mentioned here in 1487. It later operated as the Drum and Anchor inn and was renamed the Coach and Horses in 1791, although it is no longer an inn. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 62 to 86 (even), along with Nos 66A, 70A, and 86A, as well as Nos 88 to 106 (even) and the former St Anthony Franciscan Preparatory School.
