Description

Bradwell House is a house from the early 18th century that was altered and extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof behind a panelled parapet. The house has two storeys and the south front retains its original five bays, which are accented by brick Doric pilasters on either side. These pilasters support sections of an entablature with a triglyph frieze, all linked by a main cornice made of moulded brick. The windows are segmental headed sashes with altered glazing. To the right, two additional bays were added, likely in the early 19th century, using matching materials and details.

The early 19th-century entrance on the west front is made of yellow brick and features a six-panelled entrance door set within a double stepped semicircular arched opening. There are also two similar blank arches on the south elevation, along with a moulded cornice and a rendered parapet.

Inside, there is a plaster dome within the porch and a central 18th-century oak staircase. This staircase has elaborate newels made of fluted Doric columns, turned balusters with three to a tread, and a moulded handrail that sweeps up at each landing. The bottom steps curve in a wide scroll. The ground floor includes two panelled rooms on the south front, one featuring a bolection moulded fireplace surround and the other with a late 18th-century grey and white marble fireplace.
