Description
The Terrace, located off Victoria Street in Rochester, consists of a row of ten houses built in 1848 for naval officers and their families, designed by Charles Foord. The terrace is constructed from gault brick and features Kent tile roofs. It has a tripartite arrangement, with two end blocks of three storeys containing two houses each, which stand forward of six houses that are two storeys high, with the center pair projecting slightly. Each house has two window bays, a basement, and areas. The design includes identical features throughout: 4-pane horned sash windows under cambered brick arches with stone sills on brackets, 4-panelled doors with rectangular overlights, sill and cornice bands, segmental-headed dormers, and spear-headed railings to the area. The terrace has large axial stacks, and with the exception of a replaced door at No 11, all features remain intact, making it a remarkably complete example of its period.
