Description
This is a terrace of six houses located off Victoria Street in Rochester, built in 1848 for naval officers and their families, designed by Charles Foord. The houses are constructed of gault brick with roofs made of Kent tile and some Welsh slate. The terrace has a tripartite arrangement, with two end blocks of three storeys containing two houses that stand forward of two houses that are two storeys high. Each house features two window bays, a basement, and areas. They share identical architectural details, including 4-pane horned sash windows under cambered arches with stone sills on brackets, 4-panelled doors with rectangular overlights, sill and cornice bands, segmental-headed dormers, and spear-headed railings to the area. There are large axial stacks, which are truncated at No 6. Notably, only No 1 has lost its original sashes, which have been replaced by louvres. This terrace, along with the adjacent terrace at Nos 7-16, is remarkably intact for its date.
