Description

Whitefriars is an early 19th-century house on Boley Hill, Rochester. It is constructed of stuccoed brick with a Welsh slate hipped roof. The house is two and a half storeys high. The original front is symmetrical, with three bays, the central bay being taller by a half-story and curved. There are 12-pane hornless sash windows in the side bays, and a tripartite 8:8:8 sash window (4:4:4 to the upper half-story) in the central bay. Graffito decoration is present on the window arches, parapet, and cornice band of the central bay. A two-story extension is located to the left and includes a parapet and blocked windows, with sash windows to the left return. Tall axial stacks are present. The rear wall shares a party wall with The Friars. Whitefriars is one of a group of houses overlooking the Medway, with its main facade facing the river. When listed in July 1969, the property was known as Diocesan House.
