Description
The Gleanings, also known as The Old Coach House, is a former coach house, stables, and servants' accommodation that dates back to around 1800. It has been converted into four separate dwellings. The building is constructed from gault brick and features hipped roofs made of Kent tile and Welsh slate.
The former stables are two storeys high and have a regular three-window arrangement on the front, which faces the street. There is a parapet with stone coping and a plat band between the two storeys. The upper windows are 12-pane horned sashes set in reveals and are topped by elliptical arches within elliptically-headed recesses. The ground floor windows have glazing bars and round-headed arches, also set under round-headed recesses, which are linked by an impost band.
The returned elevation does not have a parapet and includes new window insertions. The service area has a five-window range under a coped parapet, with three windows on the right forming a shallow wing. These windows are modern 16-pane sashes set in reveals beneath flat window arches. All ranges, except for the one facing St Margaret's Street, are included for their group value.
