Description

1, Mansion Row is a mid-19th century end-of-terrace house in Brompton. The house is built of red brick in Flemish bond, with the side elevation primarily of stock brick. The roof is now tiled with 20th-century pantiles. The house has three storeys and a basement, with a two-window front. A parapet runs along the top, with a stuccoed band below it and another band above the first-floor windows. The windows have cambered heads with keystones and stops beneath the sills. The ground and second-floor windows are sash windows with just vertical elements, while the first-floor windows are six-pane casements. A six-panelled door is set beneath a semi-circular arch constructed of gauged brick, with a plain glass fanlight above. The rear elevation features cambered arched windows on the right and left, alongside round-headed windows with marginal stained glass. The interior was not inspected, but it may contain an original staircase, fireplaces, and cornices. The house appears on the 1866 Ordnance Survey map. It is included on the list for group value.
