Description
No. 86 High Street is a former house and shop, now a restaurant, dating from the early 17th century with 18th-century windows. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a Kent tile gable-end roof. Originally, it had a two-unit plan with rear extensions. The front features a single window range, with both the first and attic storeys jettied. The gable wall includes an 8-pane hornless sash window set in a slightly projecting moulded surround. On the first floor, there is a tripartite oriel window with hornless sashes arranged in an 8:16:8 pattern, surrounded by reeded pilasters. The ground floor has a large curved bow window with 24 panes and end pilasters. Inside, some original framing is still visible, and there is a large rebuilt brick ridge stack.
