Description
No. 84 High Street is a former house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 18th century but likely includes elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. The building may have originally been associated with the nearby Philip Lodge, which it adjoins at the rear. The structure features half-timbering and has a hipped roof covered with Kent tiles. The layout is not entirely clear, but it is possibly a two-unit building with an external rear chimney stack.
The building stands two storeys tall, with the front being plastered and featuring a single range of windows. There is a 12-pane hornless sash window on the upper floor, while the ground floor has a 20th-century plate-glass shop window with a fascia that has shaped end brackets. The left side of the building is weatherboarded and jettied. At the rear, there is a small sash window positioned between the external chimney stack and the stair turret of Philip Lodge. Inside, only a plain axial ceiling beam on the ground floor is visible.
