Description
No. 88 High Street is a former house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 17th century, with a front added in the 18th century. The building is timber framed with a brick front and features a Kent-tiled roof that is positioned end-on to the street, hipped to the rear with a central valley. It has two storeys and a front that includes a two-window range. The parapet has stone coping and a cornice band. The first floor has 12-pane hornless sash windows with stone sills. The elaborate shop front, likely from the late 19th century, features two bowed bays flanking the entrance, which is deeply recessed under a moulded cornice. Each bay has three round-headed lights with coloured glass in the top lights, and the posts are adorned with decorated spandrels. Inside, there is a diagonally set brick fireplace with a plain wooden surround on the first floor, along with some late 18th-century cupboards that may not be in their original locations.
