Description
No. 98 High Street is a former house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 17th century and may include some earlier construction. The building is timber framed, with a rebuilt brick wall on the right side. It features a Kent-tile gable-end roof. Originally, it had a two-unit layout facing the street, with an attic that was extended by a small wing running parallel to the street and a large stack at the rear. The front of the building has a single-window range that is plastered, with a three-light casement window on the gable wall and a 16-pane hornless sash window in a revealed frame on the first floor. The shop front, which dates from the 19th century, includes external shutters. Inside, there is a lateral winder stair, and much of the original framing appears to be largely intact.
