Description

Nos 107 and 109 on High Street in Rochester are former houses that have been converted into offices. No 107 dates from the late 18th century, while No 109 was built around 1800. The buildings are constructed of red brick with some stucco details and feature hipped roofs made of Welsh slate. There is a large chimney stack located on the valley of the roof.

No 107 has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a regular four-window arrangement. The parapet has been rebuilt and features stone coping along with a moulded brick cornice. The upper floors have 12-pane horned sash windows that sit beneath flat rubbed brick arches, and there is a sill band on the first floor. The ground floor is finished with rusticated stucco and has three late-20th century horned sash windows. To the right, there is a doorway framed by panelled pilasters and reveals, topped with a cornice that includes a running-dog frieze. The panelled door has a rectangular overlight with decorative glazing bars.

No 109 is attached to No 107 but set back from the street. It is two storeys tall and has a basement with an area. This building has two bays, with recessed windows that are set under larger arches, and pilasters that feature panelled capitals. The moulded cornice is only present over the window bays and is returned at the ends. The windows are horned sashes set in reveals, with six panes on the second floor and twelve panes on the first floor, all under flat rubbed brick arches. There are spear railings separating the pavement from the area. The rear of the building is weatherboarded and has sash windows that are arranged irregularly. The interior has not been inspected but is understood to contain no original fittings.
