Description

No 50 High Street, on the western corner of the High Street and St James's Street, is Grade II listed.

Early 19th century in date but with early Victorian alterations. The building is constructed in stucco over two storeys. It features a high panelled wood parapet set above a stucco panelled parapet and cornice.

The High Street front displays six recessed sash windows with block sills and flat arches with rounded corners, of which one is blind. An oriel window of five lights with a panelled apron is positioned to the east. Doors are recessed below the oriel and at the west end, with flat arches and rounded corners. The St James's Street front has four windows matching those on the High Street.

The ground floor presents an ornate public house front. It is embellished with panelled ornamental pilasters featuring floral capitals, brackets, caps, frieze and cornice. Two windows are divided into two lights by corkscrew colonettes, with flat arches of rounded corners and panelling below. There are double central doors with a rectangular fanlight and a side door of four fielded panels with a blind fanlight and flat arch with rounded corners.
