Description
The electrical transformer pillar located at the south end of Oakhill Road at Bullen Cross is a Grade II listed structure. It is made of cast iron and has a square shape with sides measuring approximately 1 meter in length and a height of 2.1 meters. The sides, including the door, feature three decorative panels, with the top panel arched. The door's top panel displays the inscription ‘SEAVIEW/ ELECTRICITY/ SUPPLY’, while the central panel on the sides features a company monogram, likely representing the Isle of Wight Light and Power Company with the letters I, O, and W.
The pillar has rounded corners designed as engaged columns, one of which incorporates the door hinges, and these columns are topped with lotus leaf capitals. The cornice is part of the tapering cap, which has volutes at the corners and panels adorned with a scale pattern between them. Above this cap is a drum that features a chevron band and a decorative finial topped with a T-shaped light fitting, which is not original to the structure. The base of the south side is marked with the name Callenders Co Ld London & Erith cast into it.
