Description
Netherfield and Rosemary is a semi-detached pair of houses built around 1850-1860. They are finished in stucco and topped with a slate roof, featuring a cast iron balcony. The buildings have two storeys and a semi-basement, with a total of four windows. The hipped slate roof has flat eaves. The south front, which faces the road, includes a full-height stucco bay on the left and a narrower full-height canted bay on the right. Both bays have roofs that are hipped over French casements on the ground and first floors. A notable feature of the elevation is a cast iron and wooden verandah, which includes a first-floor balcony that returns to the sides and is adorned with ornate balustrading in the Italian style, along with fretted work on the verandah that is inspired by Mughal design. The left-hand first-floor window is round-headed. The verandah extends to the sides of the building. The right side elevation features a gable with pierced bargeboards, a round-headed first-floor window, and a triple arcaded porch.
