Description
The Clock Tower and Drinking Fountain is likely a Jubilee memorial from either 1887 or 1897, although the inscription is now unreadable. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone ashlar and features a metal clock face along with a painted lead roof made of cast iron. The structure is a square tower with three stages, sitting on a base of three stone steps.
The first stage includes a small round-headed opening with a gabled canopy on the north face, which services the clock. On the south face, there is a cast iron drinking fountain with a semi-circular bowl and a round-headed panel behind it that bears the inscription "Keep the Pavement dry" along with a depiction of two doves, all topped with a gabled canopy. The second stage is narrower and is divided by moulded bands, featuring chamfered corners and carved stone corbels at the top.
The third stage displays a clock face on all sides, set into sunk panels. The tower culminates in a pyramidal roof topped with a spire, which has a weathervane and a trefoliated bell opening supported by pillars, with quatrefoil piercings above.
