Description
Eastcliff is a house built in 1817 for Francis Pittis of Newport, later extended to the south-west in the mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. The north-east part of the building is constructed from stone rubble and features a thatched roof. It has two storeys and two windows. The south-east elevation includes first-floor sash windows with blind boxes; the left-hand window has 12 panes, while the right-hand window has been replaced by a pivoting sash at the time of the survey. There are two French windows on the ground floor. The rear elevation has two 12-pane sashes. The hipped thatched roof is complemented by stock brick chimneystacks. The mid-19th century south-west portion is made of stone rubble with a tiled roof, featuring one gable with kneelers, a mullioned and transomed window, and a gabled porch with kneelers and a four-centred arched doorcase. The house has a picturesque aspect overlooking Shanklin Chine.
