Description
Garnock is a building dating from around 1840, located on Spencer Road. It stands three storeys tall with a semi-basement, constructed from coursed rubble with rendered quoins and a rendered rusticated ground floor. The gable end slate roof is concealed by a rendered parapet and cornice. The building features five windows, with three in a bay that runs the height of the structure, while the entrance and the windows above are set in a slight recess.
The first floor has full-length windows that rest on a sill band, with a moulded string course below. The windows are recessed, sash style, with intact glazing bars, and have rendered architrave surrounds along with block sills on consoles for the ground and second floors. The entrance door is recessed and consists of four moulded panels, two of which are glazed, topped by a semi-circular fanlight. The plain rendered surround includes imposts to the arch with voussoirs and a keystone. Access to the door is via six steps, which are flanked by cast iron balusters and a handrail, dating from the mid-19th century.
Garnock, along with Nos 7 to 11 (odd) and No 3 Market Street, forms a group of buildings of architectural significance.
