Description
Salterns Cottage and Saltmeads Cottage, located at 6 and 7 Salterns Road in Seaview, date back to the 16th or 17th century, similar to Old Salterns Cottage, but they have undergone fewer alterations. These low, single-storey buildings with attics are primarily from the 18th century and are constructed of rendered rubble. They feature steeply pitched gable end roofs covered with old tiles, with Saltmeads Cottage displaying scalloped bands along its long slopes.
Both cottages have three gabled dormers; the upper dormer on Salterns Cottage is hipped, while the centre dormer on Saltmeads is Victorian and includes bargeboards. There are tall red brick chimney stacks from the 18th century. Salterns Cottage has four 19th-century casement windows and a later recessed door, while Saltmeads Cottage has three three-light casements with earlier close-set glazing bars and a plain cottage door with a simple wood doorcase.
Nos 1 to 7 Salterns Road form a cohesive group.
