Description
West Cottage, located on West Street in Seaview, dates from around 1800 and was originally two separate cottages, with the western one still retaining its doorway. The building is two storeys high, constructed from stone rubble with red brick quoins, and features a steeply pitched gable end slate roof.
There are three windows in total, including the left-hand cottage which has a two-light casement window on the first floor and an early sash window with closely set glazing bars and block sills on the ground floor. The main cottage has square bay windows on the first floor, each with three lights, sashes, and intact glazing bars, along with wrap-around pilasters, friezes, and shallow cornices, and panelled aprons. The ground floor features recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars.
The central entrance of the main cottage has a six-panel door, four of which are glazed, surrounded by an architrave and flanked by Tuscan pilasters that support a small entablature. The left-hand cottage has a five-panel door, the top panel of which is glazed, and a trellis porch. The name "West Cottage" is inscribed on a recessed panel between the first-floor bays.
