Description

NEWCHURCH SZ58NE WACKLAND LANE 1352-0/1/165 Wackland Farm Cottage and paper barn GV II

Model cow byres with hay loft above, now partially a cottage and partially storage. Dated 1790 on stone plaque. Isle of Wight coursed rubble and slate roof. 1 storey and attics. Cottage has central round-headed doorcase with modern door and 2 round-headed sashes with glazing bars. Former byres have 2 central round-headed entrances and 2 round-headed openings with fixed glazing. Right side elevation has entrance to hayloft. Similar entrance on left-hand side and a blocked oculus, probably originally an owlhole. An interesting survival of a model farm building on a gentleman's farm.
