Description
Immervoulin is a cottage located in Strathyre, dating from around 1830, likely incorporating earlier materials, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. This single-storey and attic cottage features detached byres that create an open U-plan layout. It is a well-preserved example of a small Improvement farm, situated prominently along the main road just south of Strathyre.
The cottage has three bays, with a two-bay addition on the south gable. It includes a central door flanked by windows, piend-roofed dormers in the attic, and gablehead stacks. Notably, there is a significant height of wall between the top of the windows and the eaves. At the rear, there is a canted bay window dating from around 1860 on one side, alongside a flat-roofed addition from the 20th century that spans the rest of the elevation. The original section of the house features deep bracketed eaves.
The north byre has slit windows and timber-boarded doors facing the courtyard, with a doorway at attic level on the east (road) elevation and a 20th-century picture window on the west gable. There is also a 20th-century timber cabin attached to the north elevation.
The south byre displays an irregular arrangement of windows and timber-boarded doors on its main elevations, along with a small window at the apex of the east gable.
A coped random rubble boundary and retaining wall runs along the road. The materials used include a two-leaf timber panelled front door and timber sash and case windows with 4- and 8-pane glazing. The buildings are constructed of random rubble with roughly squared quoins and dressings, and the house is white-washed. The chimney stacks are coped with yellow clay cans, and the roof is covered with grey slate, while the byres have corrugated iron or asbestos roofs.
