Description
Glebe House, also known as The Vicarage, is a building that was constructed in 1851 in the Early English style. It is made of coursed stone rubble from the Isle of Wight and features a plain tiled roof with tall, moulded chimneystacks. The structure is asymmetrical, consisting of two storeys with irregularly placed windows.
The front elevation showcases two projecting gables and a recessed centre that includes a gabled semi-dormer, all adorned with saddle stones and kneelers. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with the gable windows featuring trefoliated heads; the left-hand gable has a 2-light window on the first floor, while the right-hand gable has a 3-light window. All ground floor gable windows have three lights and hood mouldings. A porch situated between the gables has two arches with trefoliated heads, leading to an arched doorcase with wooden and glazed double doors.
To the right of the main structure is an additional two-storey section with a hipped dormer. The building is enhanced by elaborate rainwater heads and decorated iron guttering. The left side elevation features a large gable with a 3-light mullioned and transomed window set in a blind arch on the first floor, along with triple trefoliated windows on the ground floor. A semi-dormer with a triple sash window is located on the first floor, and a 5-light canted bay with trefoliated heads is found on the ground floor. The door between these sections has a modified Caernarvon arch.
The rear elevation includes a projecting gable, three mullioned windows, and a right-hand triple trefoliated window with a hood moulding. There is also one triple dormer and one triple semi-dormer. The right-hand elevation features two gables. Inside, there is an arch leading to the staircase, which has a gothic newel post and two tiers of balusters. The left-hand ground floor room is highlighted by a marble bolection moulded fireplace with a cast iron firegrate and a wooden panelled overmantel. Throughout the building, there are six-panelled doors.
