Description
Rookley is a farmhouse that has been divided into two ownerships. It was built in the early 18th century and refronted in the late 18th century. The structure is made of red brick on a stone base, topped with a hipped slate roof and featuring two brick chimneystacks. The building is two storeys high and has four windows. The front elevation is constructed in English bond and includes 20th-century casements, mostly within old surrounds, as well as a 19th-century trelliswork porch with a slate roof and fretted bargeboards. The rear elevation displays diaper patterned brickwork. On the first floor, there are four sash windows, while the ground floor features two early 19th-century canted bay windows with three lights each. Number 2 has a very wide stone fireplace on the ground floor and a massive spine beam with chamfers, which includes at least two niches and run-out stops. The first floor has lamb's tongue stops on the spine beam, a two-panelled door, old floorboards, and a section of square framing that is at least six inches thick. There is likely an 18th-century winder staircase present.
