Description
St Dominic's Priory was built between 1865 and 1866 by Gilbert Blount in a Gothic style that still reflects some influence from Pugin. The building has a two-storey main block that faces west and is constructed of coursed rubble, topped with a gable end slate roof featuring two small triangular dormers. The main block has five windows, three of which are designed with two lights, stone mullions, and cusped arches. The doorway is adorned with a triangular dripstone and has two small narrow lights above, also with cusped arches, along with a niche that contains a statue.
To the south of the main block is an apsed chapel with a bell croft, while to the north is a three-storey wing that features a crenellated tower at the front. This wing includes a first-floor oriel window and a panelled door below, which has a moulded four-centred arch. The inner facade of the north wing has four windows similar to those on the main block, along with a rectangular stone-roofed bay window that has four lights with mullions and a transom. The outer facade of this wing features half hipped gables, with windows that resemble those on the main block but are taller.
