Description
St John's Ambulance County Headquarters is a building that was originally a chapel, dating from the early to mid-19th century and has since been altered. It is constructed of painted brick in header bond on a rubblestone plinth and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is now one storey, with a floor inserted inside. The gable end has a chamfered plinth.
There are two steps leading up to a central 20th-century board door with an overlight above it, and a blind window is located above the door. Tall flanking windows, which have been subdivided to create a window on each floor, are present, and all openings have flat brick arches. A brick stack is located on the right side, near the front of the building, and the gable is coped. At the rear, there is one tall small-pane sash window under a flat brick arch.
To the left of the former chapel is Ella Cottage, which was formerly the Caretaker's Cottage. Ella Cottage is similar in style but is better preserved. This building is included for its group value.
