Description
Steyne House is a house built in the early 19th century and extended in the mid-19th century. It features a stuccoed exterior with incised lines that mimic masonry and has a hipped slate roof. The house has cemented chimneystacks and wooden eaves. The north-east end dates from the early 19th century and is two storeys tall. It has a hipped slate roof and end cemented chimneystacks, with a paired bracket eaves cornice and a band between the floors. The first floor has three casement windows with Venetian shutters, while the ground floor features a tent-shaped verandah supported by four fluted iron columns with plumed capitals. Behind the verandah are French windows with reeded architraves and paterae.
The mid-19th century north-west side of the house is made from similar materials and includes six windows for the main house and two windows for a slightly lower service wing. Some modern casements are present on the first floor, while the ground floor has 24-pane sash windows. The entrance is through an angled conservatory with a brick base. The doorcase features Tuscan columns, an open pediment, a shell fanlight, and six-panel double doors. The conservatory is no longer octagonal and has a cupola and a curved glazed passage.
