Description
Howegate is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dating from 1722, as indicated by the datestone on the front which reads "ILM W L 1722". It is constructed of Bembridge stone rubble and features a half hipped tiled roof with an off-centre brick chimney stack. The building has a 4-bay lobby entry design, is two storeys high, and has four windows. A later 19th-century parallel range has been added at the back, which is covered in tile hanging. The windows are modern wooden casements from the 20th century, and there is a 20th-century half-glazed door in its original position. The house has a deep plinth and a large curved stone footscraper with an iron scraper located by the back door. Inside, there are two stone fireplaces with wooden lintels. To the left side of the house is a glazed conservatory that is not of special interest, and to the right is an attached 20th-century loggia, also not of special interest.
